Beeston v NECC (friendly)
Beeston entertained Elmham on a well prepared and protected wicket that had not suffered at the hands of the previous days rain. Beeston won the toss and opted to bat first. Elmham opened the bowling with Josh Hall who bowled very well throughout and in his first spell swung the ball away from the right handers causing many problems and stemming runs. An early breakthrough gave Elmham hope, but a well played innings by Adrian Graver for 57 with good support through the Beeston team saw them finish on 191-8. The Elmham bowling attack was limited, but Matt Gilbert bowled superbly in his 8 overs, with Tony Garrod picking up 2 wickets in 3 overs to show that you can't beat experience. R Futter bowled the last over off a deceptively short run up
With a chase on, the Elmham batting was opened by Tony Garrod and Callum Tindall with Tony being dismissed to a very good catch off a high full toss. 2 further quick wickets followed as Beeston fielded exceptionally well. Josh Hall came in at number 5 and steady the ship as he saw wickets fall around him. A partnership between Josh and Olly Hall for 30 runs showed that Olly is one to watch for the future as he supported his brother and hit a lovely 4 on the way. As the weather turned and the rain came in, the game moved ever further away from Elmham and as the rain continued, so did play. Josh fell to an LBW for a well played 31 and Elmham batted out to the 32nd over with a total of 107.
The final verdict is that although the game was lost, the experience gained throughout a young side, shows that North Elmham cricket club have a great bunch of youngsters waiting in the wings.
