Report

North Elmham entertained Gt. Melton "C" on Saturday, winning the toss Chris Palmer had no hesitation in batting first on a hard pitch. Iain Sinclair was promoted to open the Elmham innings and he and Stephan Malherbe made steady progress against the young Melton bowlers of Brett and Rai. Brett struggled with the Elmham slope and conceded a few extras, however Wyatt replaced Brett and had Malherbe caught off a top edge by Rai. Brett changed ends and found down the hill more to his liking and bowled Futter. At 45 for 2 from 13 overs, 17 year old Josh Hall joined Sinclair and the pair made steady progress. The experience of Sinclair assisted Hall and the pair started to score freely.
Sinclair was the first to fifty from 91 balls faced and then upped the tempo scoring his second fifty from 41 balls to record his maiden century in adult cricket. Soon afterwards, Hall scored his maiden half century in league cricket from 77 balls with 6 x 4's as the pair made hay in the sunshine. The stand was finally broken by the returning Brett who trapped Hall lbw when the pair had added 157 runs in 28 overs. Ant Keeble played a cameo with 24 from 15 balls and when Keeble was out to the last ball of the innings Sinclair was 116 not out (13 x 4, 4 x 6). Credit must be given to the Gt Melton bowlers who toiled in the hot sunshine but never gave up and chased every ball on a quick outfield. With Andy Kay not available for this match Mat Elmar opened the Elmham bowling attack and had the free scoring visiting captain Mal Howard caught behind in his second over. the same pair accounted for Brett and when Keeble bowled G. Ducker,  Melton were 31 for 3. Keeble then struck twice in two overs and half of the Melton side were out for 45. Youngster Chris Greenslade joined the senior McCurley and the pair held up the Elmham advance. Joplin replaced Elmar, Palmer replaced Keeble but were unable to make the breakthrough. Joplin finally got the important wicket of Greenslade caught by Malherbe for 28 and Elmar took a good running catch to  dismiss the dogged McCurley. The Melton innings then subsided as Keeble and Joplin wrapped up the win to give the home side maximum points.
Promotion now hinges on next Saturday's fixture away to third placed Felthorpe 1330 start. Players meet at The Railway 1230.
