North Elmham (8 pts) lost to Norwich Union "B" (25pts) by 3 wkts in Norfolk League Division 7.

Chris PalmerReport

North Elmham entertained Norwich Union B on Saturday without six of there regular players. Youngsters Calum Tindall, Josh Hall, and 15 year old Matthew Gilbert were all making their debuts for the club. Loosing the toss Elmham were invited to bat first.
Matty Bamforth opened the batting with Stephan Malherbe and Bamforth was soon bowled for 9.
Richie Futter followed soon after and Elmham were 38 for 2 wickets.
Robert Joplin joined Malherbe and the pair added 60 with Malherbe adding another half century before falling for 55. A mini collapse followed as Elmham slumped to 112 for 6 wickets from 24 overs. Chris Palmer had decided to bat down the order so that all the youngsters weren't  left without an experienced head. He and Josh Hall added 100 runs in the next 14 overs before Hall was out for a fine 28 made from
48 balls faced. Matthew Gilbert was unluckily bowled off his pads without scoring and with the weather closing in Chris Palmer (60 not out from 51 balls) decided to declare the Elmham innings closed after 40 overs with the score 224 for 8 wickets. For Norwich Union, Simon Huggins took 3 for 46 and Dilip 3 for 49. After tea the weather still looked very threatening as Luke Goddard and Steve Kay opened the attack for Elmham. Goddard struck early courtesy of an excellent catch by Hall. Kay struck three blows and then took his fourth wicket with the last ball of his excellent bowling spell to finish with 4 for 28 from
12 overs. Josh Hall bowled Shridhar and when Calum Tindall  trapped Anand lbw, Union (disappointed) needed 90 from 17 overs.  Lardner was joined by Prasanth and together the pair batted sensibly and took Norwich Union to victory with an undefeated partnership, Lardner finishing 57 not out and Prasanth 38 not out. Elmham skipper Palmer was disappointed to loose but stood by his decision to declare. "Hindsight is a wonderful thing but all we got after tea from the threatening clouds was a few spots of rain, and it made for an excellent game of cricket which I hope the youngsters enjoyed." Elmham hope to bounce back next week away to Old Catton "B".
