North Elmham travelled to Britannia Barracks (Norwich) on Saturday and had to settle for a no result against Norwich Union "B". Winning the toss Elmham decided to bat to try and obtain maximum batting bonus points. Openers Tony Garrod and Stephan Malherbe put together a partnership of 85 before Garrod was unsettled by a rain break and was bowled for 24. This brought Grant King to the crease and he and Malherbe bludgeoned the bowling to all parts adding 182 in 14 overs before King was out for 60 from 45 balls faced. Skipper Chris Palmer had intended to declare after maximum batting points had been achieved but Malherbe only needed another 10 runs for a century so in fading light decided to bat on. Unfortunately the heavens opened yet again and the pitch became unplayable and Malherbe was left stranded 7 runs short of his maiden Elmham century. Next week return fixture with Norwich Union "B" at home.
