North Elmham travelled the short distance to play Shipdham "A" on Saturday. Tony Garrod and Stephan Malherbe opened the Elmham batting and put together an opening stand of 48 before Garrod was caught for 23. Ant Keeble joined Malherbe and after a couple of scares got his innings under way scoring 44 from 37 balls faced ( 2 sixes, 4 fours) before he was caught with the total on 121 after 22 overs. Malherbe continued to punish the loose ball scoring his second half century before being adjudged lbw for 60, Ritchie Futter and Iain Sinclair added 38 and with 10 overs to bat Elmham were 188 for 5 wickets. At this point Shipdham skipper Nigel Raven decided it was time for action.
Raven swapped his role as wicket keeper for bowler and he and J. Spalding soon wrapped up the Elmham innings. Raven finished with 4 - 16, Spalding 4 - 10 as Elmham failed to bat there allocated overs being all out for 210.
Shipdham attacked the North Elmham bowling from the start and for once the bowlers suffered under pressure. P. Dodd scored 23 before going for another big shot and Malherbe took the catch. Keeble had one good lbw appeal turned down before getting a decision against A.Friend and when Sinclair had Stubbs caught by Futter, Shipdham were 45 for 3 wickets.
Andy Kay replaced Keeble and struggled to find the rhythm he has shown in previous matches. His first two overs went for 19 before he settled down and bowled Nigel Raven for 18 from 10 balls faced.
He then bowled well and when he bowled Spalding for 23 Shipdham were
97 for 7 wickets. Elmham skipper Chris Palmer took the last two wickets and with Shipdham player Gadsen being unable to bat due to an injury picked up whilst fielding the innings closed with Shipdham 100 runs short of their target. Next week North Elmham are at home to Felthorpe "A" .
