Report

North Elmham travelled to the picturesque setting of Ketteringham Hall to take on the hosts "A" team. Returning skipper Chris Palmer won the toss and had no hessitation in batting first. Ant Keeble was out early but Grant King and Stephan Malherbe progressed the score to 86 in the 18th over before Malherbe was bowled for 44. King was joined by Palmer and with so much time left the skipper was able to play himself in whilst King was severe on anything off line reaching his fifty from 63 balls. At the half way point the score was 135. The partnership flourished with King hitting the ball to all parts as the host bowlers wilted in the heat. King reached his century from 108 balls and shortly afterwards Palmer passed fifty from 62 balls. The pair had added 175 from 22 overs when King was bowled by Jamie Howes for 123, his innings included 16 fours and 5 sixes. If the home bowlers were anticipating a lull in Web1the onslaught they were wrong, Christo Slabbert smashed a huge six in his cameo innings. When Palmer was out with the score on 274 the innings subsided as the batsmen tried to reach 300. Wickets tumbled and at the end of the alloted overs Elmham had scored 292. The host bowlers stuck to there task in the heat but the Elmham batsmen plundered 154 from the last 20 overs with 97 coming from the last 10 overs. Iain Sinclair and Ant Keeble opened the Elmham attack with Sinclair striking in his second over. The Elmham bowlers then bowled tidily and waited for the hosts run chase to gain momentum, however this never happened as the home side seemed content to occupy the crease and deny the visitors bowling points. Andy Kay struck three blows and the hosts were 84 for 4 at the halfway point. Rob Joplin was bowling well and Gideon Rossouw had Terry Briggs well caught by wicketkeeper Futter for 49 from 94 balls. Ant Keeble took an excellent catch on the boundary to get rid of Baker for 30 from 36 balls. Sinclair returned for his second spell and took two wickets and Elmham had 4 overs to try to get the final wicket.
This was not possible as Jamie Howes and home skipper Valentine occupied the crease and Elmham ran out winners by 110 runs.  Afterwards Elmham skipper Palmer said " Other than a few balls keeping low,it was an excellent pitch to play cricket on. We are now entering the holiday period and will be missing a few key players. With a small squad it is an oppurtunity for other players to step up and perform". Next week home to Rollesby, players meet at 1.15.
